Prof. Dr. Moritz Pöschke

Pöschke has been Director of the Institute for Sustainability, Corporate Law and Reporting at the University of Cologne since July 2022. In September 2024, he was appointed adjunct professor by the University of Cologne; he also took over the co-management of the INUR.

Moritz Pöschke was born in Gelsenkirchen in 1979. After obtaining his general university entrance qualification, he studied business administration at the University of Hagen from 1999 - 2003 (Dipl.-Kfm.) and law in Münster and Barcelona from 2000 - 2005 (first and second state examinations). This was followed by his legal clerkship in Düsseldorf from 2006 - 2009 with stages in Frankfurt am Main, London and New York.

In 2008, Pöschke received his doctorate from the University of Cologne and then worked as a lawyer (Associate, Senior Associate) at Clifford Chance in Düsseldorf from 2009 - 2013. From 2010 - 2011, he completed an LL.M. program at Harvard Law School funded by the German Academic Scholarship Foundation (Bucerius Law Program) and Harvard University (Stolper Scholarship). From 2013 - 2014, Pöschke was a group leader in the legal department of BMW AG in Munich and from 2014 - 2016 again a lawyer (Counsel) at Clifford Chance in Düsseldorf. From 2016 - 2019, in addition to his work as an independent lawyer, he worked as a temporary academic advisor at the Chair of Civil Law, Accounting and Tax Law and was habilitated by the Faculty of Law at the University of Cologne in May 2019. Since then, he has been authorized to teach the subjects of civil law, German and European commercial and corporate law and tax law. In the 2019/2020 winter semester, he held a W3 professorship for tax law at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg.

Since July 2022, Pöschke has served as Director of the Institute for Sustainability, Corporate Law and Reporting at the University of Cologne. In September 2024, he was appointed adjunct professor by the University of Cologne and additionally assumed the role of Co-Managing Director of the INUR. Alongside his academic position, Pöschke continues to work as an independent attorney. His advisory focus lies on corporate law matters, in particular issues of corporate governance at the intersection of company law, accounting law, auditing, and sustainability regulation. Pöschke has also been, and continues to be, a member of various supervisory and advisory boards of start-ups and medium-sized companies.
