Prof. Dr. Joachim Hennrichs

Prof. Dr. Joachim Hennrichs has held the Chair of Civil Law, Accounting and Tax Law since March 2003. He is also Co-Director of the Institute for Corporate Law and, since October 2022, Managing Director of the Institute for Sustainability, Corporate Law and Reporting (INUR).

Short vita

Prof. Dr. Joachim Hennrichs was born in 1965 in Polch in the district of Mayen-Koblenz in Rhineland-Palatinate. In 1984, he obtained his general higher education entrance qualification at the Kurfürst-Balduin Gymnasium Münstermaifeld and began studying law at the University of Mainz in 1985, which he completed in 1990 with the 1st state examination. In 1994, Prof. Dr. Joachim Hennrichs received his doctorate in law from the University of Mainz with a thesis supervised by his academic teacher Walther Hadding. His habilitation followed with a thesis on accounting law, also at the University of Mainz in 1998.

After holding professorships at the Technical University of Darmstadt and the University of Potsdam, he was appointed to the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster (now the University of Münster) at the beginning of 2000. From March 2000 to February 2003, he held the professorship for Civil Law and Banking Law. In March 2003, he finally moved to the University of Cologne, where he has since held the Chair of Civil Law, Accounting and Tax Law. He is also Co-Director of the Institute for Corporate Law and, since October 2022, Managing Director of the Institute for Sustainability, Corporate Law and Reporting (INUR).

Prof. Dr. Hennrichs is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Federal Ministry of Finance and numerous other scientific working groups. He is married and has two children.

Teaching qualification

Prof. Dr. Hennrichs is authorized to teach civil law, German and European commercial and corporate law, and tax law.
